Hampton Court, Herefordshire: is a castle on the meadows of the river Lugg, backed by a steep wooded escarpment and surrounded by woodland and grounds of 1,000 acres. Founded by King Henry in the early 15th century the castle has been completely restored. Featured in several magazines and on Gardeners World. Staunton Park Gardens, Herefordshire: On the edge of the Black and White village Trail these gardens offer visitors 10 acres to explore. At spring time the extensive rhododendron groves dominate the views to the lake. The rose garden, behind its impressive yew hedge, and the many mixed borders planted within the last 5 years continue to delight well into September. Abbey Dore Court Gardens, Herefordshire: A beautiful six acre plant-lovers’ garden with formal, wild and river areas set in glorious Herefordshire countryside. Just over the river bridge is a further four acre meadow full of unusual trees. located at the Southern end of the beautiful Golden Valley in South Herefordshire, just 15 miles from Hay-on-Wye, 12 miles from Hereford and 15 miles North of Abergavenny. Just in view of the famous 1147 Cistercian Abbey is this lovely six acre garden made up of a number of very different parts. The walled garden has nine individual borders, divided by brick paths. Furnished with follies and fragrant flowers, towers and topiary, pools and a potager, and paths to five acres of specimen trees on the banks of a river, on the border with Wales. Groups by appointment. www.bryansground.co.uk Whimble Gardens, Presteigne: Tucked away on the southfacing slopes of The Radnor Valley this richly planted garden is a subtle tapestry of colour throughout the season. In the main garden a yew walk leads into a box-edged parterre planted with bulbs, perennials and some unusual annuals. Beyond, an airy wiremesh "church" creates an eccentric and attractive frame work for roses and rare clematis. A small garden is scented by a hedge of Hidcote lavender, and a gate cuts through a beech hedge leading to the meadow beyond which even finer views of the surrounding hills can be seen from the balustraded toposcope.Open April to Mid Oct. www.whimblegardens.co.uk ![]() Aulden Farm Garden, Leominster.Situated in the beautiful rolling countryside of the Welsh Marches. Surrounding our old farmhouse we have created an informally planted country garden and nursery. There are many different aspects to enjoy from the dry stream which is planted with ferns and Iris ensata to the natural pond, a haven for wildlife surrounded by siberian iris. We are open Tuesday & Thursday 10am-5pm from April to August inclusive and Thursdays only in September. However, visitors are welcome at other times by arrangement. We are also open some Sundays for the National Garden Scheme—18th April, 30th May, 27th June and 12th September 2010 (2.00-5.30pm). ![]() |
