Border Bicentenary Piano Festival
28th November, The Great Hall, The Palace, Hereford , HR4 9BN
Hereford born pianist and scholar Tom Cooper was brought up near Monmouth, has performed and broadcast internationally and published specialist writings on Chopin and French music, on which he is an expert, and teaches at the Open University. Tom will use his wide experience as a lecturer to give his audiences a greater insight into the context of the music he will perform than programme notes alone can usually provide.
Tom is particularly delighted to be playing at The Palace as Hereford is his own birth-place, his grandfather running a successful antique business in Church Street . Three generations of his family are commemorated in the Cathedral. He is thrilled to be able to offer Hereford some of his reflections on Chopin's supremely moving music about which he has had such a passion since a child. The recital explores the influence of Chopin on some of his less frequently heard contemporaries, such as Thalberg, as well as on major figures such as Rachmaninov and Debussy.
Both events start at 3:30 pm and tickets are £12 for adults, £5 for students available on the door and on line on www.borderbicentenary.co.uk
