Richards Castle Soap Box Derby

Richards Castle Soap Box Derby is held to raise money for charities whilst creating a fun day for the teams, supporters and spectators. 2009 will be the sixth event and a total of £27,700 has been raised for charities from the first five. In 2008 there were 35 soap boxes competing, with ‘Fun’ or ‘Themed’ Soap Boxes encouraged since they provide the most interest to spectators.

For 2009 our charities will be focused on disadvantaged children within our local area of south Shropshire, north Herefordshire and west Worcestershire. We will support two main charities:

Megan Baker House - This is the only centre in the UK to offer free Conductive Education sessions to children with motor impairments such as cerebral palsy, Parkinson disease and stroke. This local centre provides a range of sessions and activities designed to encourage development of physical independence, social and communication skills as well as teaching life skills.

Ewe & You- This centre based at Nash, provides free holidays to disadvantaged children, aiming to enable them to take charge of their own lives by teaching them to take responsibility for their own actions and resist disruptive peer pressure. The children who come to Ewe & You are recommended by schools and other agencies in the West Midlands area. Click on www.eweandyou.org.uk and www.meganbakerhouse.org.uk to be inspired to raise money for these worthwhile causes.
The closing date is 19 June 2009 to enable programme printing    Ian Broom  – 01584 831139
