A Little About us......The following is a brief resume published in the Leominster Journal about us. Recently, I was delighted to be contacted by Adrienne Boxhall with news of her website Local to Leominster, which truly lives up to its name, combining essential information for both potential visitors and locals alike. Adrienne herself is truly local, living with her family at Byton, near Shobdon. Joining the police service in 1980, serving mostly between Bromyard and Leominster, she had a varied and distinguished career: village bobby for Bredenbury for six years, then schools’ liaison-officer, CID, child protection and beat-officer, achieving commendations which included a Chief Constable’s Commendation of Bravery. Sadly, her twenty-year career ended abruptly with a car-accident which left her with a severe neck injury. She has continued her service to the community though, as welfare officer for Luctonians, her experience in child protection proving invaluable. Adrienne’s husband continues the family links, serving with the police in Ludlow and her sons, Sam aged 11 and Thomas aged 15, attend Wigmore High School. They are both talented athletes, play rugby for Luctonians and are involved in football, judo and cricket, with their mother acting as a taxi to various sporting events. Understandably, as their father is Welsh, Rugby is a family preoccupation. They all love to travel and even on holiday the family serve as advocates for Leominster and the county, often choosing ‘home swaps’ to Australia and France. All of the visiting families have loved the experience, ‘finding loads to do – indeed, one Australian family were so impressed that they have since visited twice more.. Adrienne set up her Local to Leominster website with the aim of attracting visitors but, also, to provide a service for local people and, indeed, she has achieved both aims, with the site receiving 21,300 ‘hits’ since its inception in April 2008. Its Home Page combines a comprehensive introduction to Leominster and its attractions, with a Menu listing links to Local Accommodation, Business Directory, Classifieds and Web Search. Page heading are comprehensive: Out and About, The Villages, Local Towns, What’s On, plus Contact Us for suggestions or questions. Self-taught, Adrienne designed and set up the website herself, thoroughly enjoying the process and keeping it up to date. She is able to assist in setting up websites and, added to her own skills, she also ‘knows a man who can’! Charges are reasonable and she is always happy to supply details and offer advice. The declared aim of the website, which is beautifully illustrated, is ‘to be a one-stop shop for all things local including accommodation, businesses, latest events and much much more. Whether you are a visitor, resident or thinking of relocating here, all the information you need about Leominster and its surrounding villages can be found in one place.’ Business and Accommodation listings cost only a very modest £20 for 12 months, including web-links and photos. With her webite, her own distinguished service and her husband’s continuing role in the police force, plus her sons sporting prowess, Adrienne and her family are truly a community asset.
